CALIPER

Measurement of a borehole diameter is a part of the conventional open-hole logging suite to be registered in all exploration and wildcat wells.

Caliper provides a high vertical resolution of lithology differentiation (layers with a thickness of 0.2-0.3 m can be identified). Dual axis caliper log allocates permeable rocks by the decreasing of borehole diameter due to the mud cake growth opposite it.

Caliper tool is the four-arms pressed to the borehole; the two opposite pairs work together to give the borehole diameter in two perpendicular directions and average diameter.

Caliper data are integrated to determine the volume of the open hole and annular space, which is then used in planning cementing operations. Additionally, we calculate cavernosity ratio of the well.

Microcaliper log is a modification of regular caliper and it registers with the micro resistivity logging suite. Microcaliper has a smaller opening diameter up to 40 cm.

The tool uses for zooming of wellbore profile and more detailed identification of complex reservoirs, such as frequent and thin interbedding of different types of rocks.
